We are really pleased to confirm that the first phase of the regeneration of The Closes Estate, Redcar was highly commended at the national LABC Awards Grand Final on Tuesday 10 November 2015. This most recent accolade is testament to the hard work put in by the full development team in creating a hugely popular scheme, which we were proud to be a part of.
RJ Consultants have been involved in the scheme with Coast & Country Housing from the early stages of community consultation and master-planning the site, through all pre-planning and tender stages to the appointment of the development partner Keepmoat, and then acting as Employers Agent to Coast & Country throughout the construction of the scheme to final delivery.
The first phase of the scheme, which was nominated for the award, has seen the construction of 44 independent living apartments and 18 two bedroom bungalows to form a key landmark in the area, and a scheme which has proved hugely popular with residents.
Regeneration of the wider estate has seen the demolition of 314 properties which had suffered from years of anti-social behaviour and a poor reputation owing to its unpopular Radburn design courtyard layout. Construction of a mixed tenure scheme of 350 affordable and open market sale properties has transformed the area and provided a very popular development. Keepmoat is continuing to develop out the final phase of the scheme which will provide the final 76 homes for sale.
